How to track GST payment status online?

A taxpayer can check the status of his monthly/quarterly GST payments before or after login into the common portal. In this article, we will discuss how to track payment status on the GST portal.

Steps to track GST payment status without logging into the portal

To track the status of a GST payment before logging into the GST Portal, perform the following steps:

Step 1: Access the https://www.gst.gov.in/ URL. The GST Home page is displayed. Navigate to the Services > Payments > Track Payment Status option.

Step 2: On this screen,

  • In the 'Enter GSTIN/Other Id' field, enter GSTIN.
  • In the 'Enter CPIN' field, enter CPIN.
  • Enter the captcha code and click the 'TRACK STATUS' button.

Step 3: The payment status is displayed.

3.1 If the payment status is displayed as 'PAID', then the 'VIEW RECEIPT' button is enabled and the taxpayer can view and download the receipt, after clicking on the 'VIEW RECEIPT' button.

3.2 If the payment status is displayed as 'NOT PAID', the taxpayer can save an offline copy by clicking on the ‘Download’ button.

Meaning of various payment status types

 

Status Meaning 
Initiated Taxpayer has initiated e-payment and transaction is in progress and confirmation is awaited from Bank.
Paid Payment is credited to cash ledger of the taxpayer.
Not Paid Challan is generated by the taxpayer (this is default status of challan on generation).
Failed Challan payment transaction of the taxpayer was unsuccessful (as communicated by bank).
Paid at tax Office When Tax Officer deposits payment of the tax, collected from taxpayer, over the counter in the bank.

Awaiting Bank Confirmation

For e-payment mode of payment, transaction initiated by maker is pending approval of checker to the bank.
Awaiting Bank Clearance Confirmation from bank to GST Portal is awaited for the OTC mode of payment, where bank has acknowledged the challan, but remittance is awaited.
Expired Validity of challan has expired as no payment was made by taxpayer within 15 days of generation of the challan.
Cheque/DD Dishonored Over the counter payment made by taxpayer was dishonored by the bank due to insufficient funds or any other reason.
No Response from Bank Taxpayer has initiated payment process and no response is received from Bank on the GST Portal.
Blocked When payment is debited in the bank and validity period of challan has expired on the GST Portal.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

CPIN stands for Common Portal Identification Number. The 14-digit CPIN number is created for every GST Challan successfully generated by the taxpayer.

You can check the payment status by navigating to Services > Payments > Challan History.

  • If the status shows as INITIATED then the payment is still in process.
  • If the status shows FAILED, then you need to create another challan and make the payment.

Depending on the status of the challan, the debited amount may either get updated in the Electronic Cash Ledger or it may get credited to your bank account, which may take up to 24 Hrs.
